Cancer – Are You at Risk?

cancerAnyone can be affected with cancer regardless of race. In fact, even animals, birds and plants can also develop cancer. In humans, it was found that cancer is more common among people of old age. This means that advanced races with longer lifespan has a higher rate of cancer. Moreover, women have a higher risk of developing cancer because the breasts and the uterus are most commonly affected.

If a person developed cancer, there is a small probability that it can be cured. However, there is a strong chance that it can be prevented if detected earlier. That is why each person must take the necessary examinations just to be sure that he does not have some forms of cancer. It is important that a person is aware of the impending dangers of the disease because if the cancer is already in its advanced stage, even the most skilled doctor will not able to cure it.

A cancer starts when an abnormal growth of cells occurs which is called a tumor. Some tumors are benign, which are the non-cancerous type and are harmless. Benign tumors can be removed by a surgeon easily. But the tumors that will grow as cancer are called malignant tumors. Malignant tumors grow invasively and spread to other parts of the body and start up new growths. That is why surgeons find it really hard to operate cancer because they don’t know how far it had spread. That is why it is important to remove the destructive cells early before they spread.

Researchers say that certain chemicals can cause cancer as well as extensive exposure to X-rays, gamma rays, and ultra-violet ray. A cancer may also develop if a body experiences certain irritant. For instance, a tooth with a sharp or rough edge may cause cancer of the tongue. Thus it is important for every person to be educated about the risks of cancer.
