Home Remedies To Reduce Cholesterol

Cholesterol a yellowish fatty substance, referred to as a major villain in heart disease has resulted in countless home remedies by which we can reduce cholesterol level below 200mg per 100ml. Cholesterol in the blood occurs with lipo proteins of two types:

  1. Low density lipo protein (LDL): referred as the bad cholesterol.
  2. High density lipo protein (HDL) referred as the good cholesterol.

Talking about home remedy, it is a natural cure using fruits, vegetables and herbs we have at home along with simple lifestyle changes to go. It is this simple, no side effects, no chemicals, no cost advantages which makes many people to resort to home remedies. In addition they take the pleasure of being able to cure them.

1. WATER: Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water to stimulate the excretory activity of the kidney.
2. OATMEAL: Eat oatmeal everyday.
3. GARLIC: large doses of garlic (at least 7 pods) taken daily in empty stomach significantly lower cholesterol. If you wish odorless garlic pills are available at health food stores.
4. GINGER: thins the blood improving blood circulation.
5. BREAKFAST: risk having higher cholesterol level if you should skip breakfast regularly. Have a good start with ready to eat breakfast cereals and whole grain food.
6. FREQUENT SMALL MEALS: Larger meals release large amounts of insulin, which in turn stimulate the production of an enzyme that increases the production of cholesterol in the liver. So nibble throughout the day on low caloric food.
7. SUPPLEMENTS: Certain supplements have found to maintain an optimum cholesterol level: -

  • Niacin
  • Chromium
  • Vitamin-C with bioflavonoid

8. BEANS: like vegetables contain pectin. Greater the intake of legumes and beans greater the benefit.
9. VEGETABLES AND FRUITS: grapefruit, grapes and carrot are the king source of pectin which remarkably helps to reduce cholesterol.
10. WALNUT: one cup everyday.
11. WALK: at least two and half hours a week to shed those extra pounds increasing your cholesterol level.
12. RED WINE: half a glass before bedtime.
